Save yourself — and your business — embarrassment
and costly reprints before going public
That old adage about having just one opportunity to make a first (and often lasting) impression is seldom more crucial than when it comes to the the written word. Get it wrong, and it could cost you dearly.
All it takes is one single spelling error or seemingly minor grammatical mistake to detract from your overall message and tarnish your or your company’s image.
As soon as they spot an error (and they will) or come across awkward language, your target readers will:
- be confused or irritated;
- think that you are partially illiterate;
- or remarkably inconsiderate;
- immediately form a negative impression of you…
- …one that is almost impossible to overcome.
All that work, all that energy, but still your credibility is lost in an instant. Which seems a real shame when it is so easily avoidable. Simply by detecting mistakes or inconsistencies before it’s too late.
“Yes, but I always use a spellchecker…”
That's great! So do I. Even after 18 years' solid experience as a professional editor and proofreader. But, really, don't rely on spellcheckers or grammar checkers. Neither is fail-safe, and they can only compare words to those that they have on file. They do not consider the meaning and impact of words in context, either. In fact, they have been shown to miss even the most obvious of errors.
So how can you guarantee that your text (and business reputation) is safe?
It's as easy as ABC:
A. Email your documents (or links to web pages) that need treating, along with a purchase order (if necessary), and tell me about your project. Be sure to include your contact details. I will never, under any circumstances, pass on any of your personal details to any third party. I can accept original work digitally, in most formats but to avoid compatibility problems across IBM PC and Apple Macintosh platforms, I would suggest you sending Rich Text Format [.rtf] files for me to treated, as there are several word processors that can read and write this file type and viruses can not be transmitted.)
B. I will return a personalised, no-obligation quotation. I will also send a request for either a deposit to secure my
services/book a slot on my project board, or the full amount for the
same, depending on how much the total is expected to be. Please note: My standard policy is to receive a 33-100% retainer of my professional fee in advance. More...
C. If you accept your quote, pay your deposit and sit back while your text is expertly polished.
