Services
(what I can do for you & how you benefit)
I can provide a variety of editorial services, each tailored to your budget and requirements.
If all you need is a final check over your copy, then try my Proofread Level 1 service to eliminate any overseen errors. (More on this below.) This is ideal for those wishing to ensure their article queries, business proposals, or novels are free of typos, for example.
If you're not sure you even need the help of an expert editor or proofreader, then read why everyone can benefit from editorial expertise.
Here is a run down of what is involved for each of my editorial services
'Second Language' or Translated English Polish
What's involved? I will go through your text to ensure it is in correct idiomatic English without interfering with the original meaning. This service includes looking for and correcting: clumsy syntax, 'poor' English, obvious typographical mistakes, including
spelling, and punctuation errors; and highlighting glaring format
inconsistencies.
Perfect for text that has been written or translated by someone who is not a native English speaker. Copy that doesn't 'feel right'.
Proofread Level 1
What's involved? A quick scan over text that has relatively few errors. Looking for and correcting: obvious typographical mistakes, including spelling, and punctuation errors; and highlighting glaring format inconsistencies.
This is the simplest, most straightforward level of proofreading. It is ideal if your copy has been written well, is very well presented and simply needs a final review to check for accidental errors or omissions.
Proofread Level 2
What's involved? As above, but also looking for and correcting: grammatical errors, such as subject-verb discrepancies; format inconsistencies; and inaccurate word usage. Also incorporates highlighting inconsistencies in content and ensuring sound overall readability (this will encompass rephrasing only those clauses that are deemed to be extremely clumsy or overlong).
This is a more thorough form of proofreading, allowing greater scope for checking/amendments. It is ideal if your copy has been generally written well, is well presented and requires a final review to check for accidental errors, omissions and minor inconsistencies in headings, etc. Note: changes in content, organisation or writing style are not covered. This would incorporate a medium or heavy edit.
Light Edit (Copy Editing)
What's involved? A quick scan over text that has relatively few errors. Looking for and correcting obvious typos, errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, and highlighting glaring inconsistencies.
This option is similar to final proofreading (Proofread Level 1), but allows greater scope for amendments. Note: changes in content, organisation or style are not covered in a light edit. Also, this level of editing is based on the assumption that the text to be treated is well presented and in an average condition).
Medium Edit (Copy Editing)
What's involved? Looking for and correcting spelling, grammatical, punctuation, syntax and general English language errors; establishing consistent use of abbreviations, capitalisation, hyphenation, spelling and usage; establishing clarity of expression and consistency in style and headings etc; suggesting improvements in overall layout and presentation or reorganising text/paragraph order to improve clarity and logical flow.
Heavy Edit (Sub Editing/Rewriting)
What's involved? As above, but also checking accuracy of references, picture captions, etc; writing or improving (if necessary) headlines, sub-heads/x-heads and picture captions; rewriting text to improve overall structure and expression (the original meaning will be maintained); highlighting ambiguous usage and/or conflicting statements and major inconsistencies; suggesting or improving areas that would benefit from further development or major revision; cutting word count to specified length.
Copy Writing
What's involved? Writing compelling copy from scratch, based on your creative input/brief, that adds impact and aims to successfully sell, generate leads, entertain, educate, or inform. Editing is naturally a part of this process, and is inclusive of the copy-writing fee. One round of revisions at my expense is also included.
